There are a lot of pistol cleaning kits available on the market these days, and that is a very good thing. After all, there is certainly an almost endless selection of handguns. Why not kits with which to clean them? With that in mind, Josh Sykes of Kinetic Concealment created a new cleaning kit, and it’s a pretty handy one.

I must admit, I’ve been a bit neglectful about carrying a cleaning kit with me during my recreational travels (especially when carrying a low-maintenance Glock pistol or my Smith & Wesson M&P). With the polymer frames and various forms of coating on the steel parts, I just haven’t felt the need to. I also didn’t think I had the right kit for the task. However, the new Tac Pack cleaning kit allowed me to bring a complete cleaning kit along without taking up much room.

About the Compact and Convenient Cleaning Kit

The Tac Pack, named for the black ballistic nylon multi-purpose MOLLE attachable pack that holds it, measures 7 inches high, 4.5 inches wide and 3 inches thick. There is a subdued silver and black American flag affixed to the Velcro pile front flap. The flap covers a narrow outer pocket that can be filled with additional cleaning items of the user’s choice. The zippered central compartment holds the bulk of the cleaning equipment.

Inside the Tac Pack you will find everything you need for basic pistol maintenance with room to add more gear if you wish. The below items are included in Kinetic Concealment’s cleaning kit.

  1. Nothing else matters if you don’t have a decent cleaning and lubrication solution in the kit-and a combination product is clearly what is needed in a kit this size. Josh chose to use Wolf Premium All-in-One Gun Oil and Cleaner. This cleaner cleans and lubricates while also removing and repelling moisture. It can remove impurities on metal surfaces as well as help to maintain coller barrel temperatures. The oil and cleaner can also protect against corrosion, and its innovative formula bonds with metal.
  2. A firm, stiff bristle cleaning brush.
  3. A package of 100 2×2 Wolf 100 percent knitted cotton cleaning squares. These are 100 percent made in the USA.
  4. A “self-contained in the handle” takedown brass rod cleaning kit that includes a copper bristle and a plastic bristle cleaning brush, a cloth cleaning swab and a cleaning jag.
  5. A Wolf Oil cleaning cloth that can be used in place of an actual mat for stripping the pistol.

Though not included in the kit, I chose to add a Glock disassembly tool to my pack. It is a flat-tipped punch with a plastic handle. And it’s all you need to have on-hand to do a total “Glock Factory Armorer” field strip. It also comes in handy for working on other handguns. TRUGLO has a version of the Glock disassembly tool available for $4.74.

Do You Need the Tac Pack Cleaning Kit from Kinetic Concealment?

I tested out the Tac Pack on my Remington R1 Executive Ultralight Compact .45 before we left for our vacation. It wasn’t particularly dirty, but I had done some test firing with Liberty Overwatch defensive ammunition before we left for our summer vacation. The Wolf Premium All-in-One Gun Oil and Cleaner has no offensive odor. As it didn’t offend my wife’s excellent sense of smell, I didn’t have to head to the basement or garage, which is a plus. The Wolf cleaner easily wiped out the powder residue and left a nice lubricating coating on the metal surfaces of the barrel and slide. The three brass cleaning rod segments assembled easily and fit into the handle, forming a satisfactory cleaning rod. The pieces were also easily replaced back into the handle when the cleaning was finished. The Tac Pack rested in my suitcase out of the way for the duration of our trip.

I used the kit during the trip on one occasion: to wipe down and rust protect my Pro-Tec Runt 5 automatic knife after a lakeside cutting chore. With the higher humidity at the cottage, I wanted to make sure that not even the slightest bit of rust appeared on my knife

MSRP of the Kinetic Concealment Tac Pack is $29.95. It is a versatile, yet adaptable kit packaged in a heavy duty nylon case. For more information go to KineticConcealment.com. While you are there, check out their line of comfortable Neoprene-backed inside-the-waistband holsters there as well.
