I’ll get some letters about this one, but it is legal for an attacker to be shot in the back, as long as you can articulate that your actions were the only actions you could take to stop an imminent deadly threat.
You do not have to expose yourself to danger in order to use deadly force. You are not REQUIRED to give a verbal challenge. What you are required to do is be able to tell why you did what you did and how it was the only thing you could do to prevent “death or great bodily harm to yourself or another person or persons.”
The example I use in the video is that of an active shooter. But it also holds true in some situations of domestic violence or violent assault. If you need to take the shot, take the shot. This is not Hollywood.
Not the Cowboy Way…
…but a shot in the back is legal and ethical if such action stops a deadly threat. You just need to be able to tell the authorities — through your attorney — why you did what you did.
