The U.S. Concealed Carry Association is proud to support the National Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 38) that was introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives by Congressman Richard Hudson (R-NC). We have long been supportive of this important bipartisan legislation and will be making an even harder push for its passage in the months ahead. So why is national reciprocity important, and what does it mean for all Americans?
National Reciprocity: A Game Changer
Too often, families visiting out-of-state relatives or business professionals traveling for work get into legal hot water due to convoluted concealed carry permit laws. These laws make it nearly impossible for permit holders to confidently move between states.
National reciprocity would eradicate any worry for responsibly armed Americans. No longer would gun owners have to think twice about crossing from one state to the next while on vacation, visiting loved ones or traveling to work. Why should something so consequential as being able to defend your family’s safety be in jeopardy simply because you crossed from one state to another? National reciprocity would do away with these imaginary boundaries.
National concealed carry reciprocity is a long overdue solution to help more responsibly armed Americans protect themselves and their families. It’s time for elected officials on both sides of the aisle to make the right choice by putting individual and family protections first.
Signing the Petition
By signing the petition you are helping to:
- Protect those who are their families’ first lines of defense: Congress has a basic obligation to support these most responsible members of our community and ensure they can protect themselves and their families, no matter where they are traveling.
- Reduce crime with more responsible protectors: According to data from the Crime Prevention Research Center, the number of concealed carry handgun permits has surged by 34 percent since 2016 — with the current number of permits more than 19.5 million. At the same time, violent crime has gone down for three consecutive years. NOW is the time for national concealed carry reciprocity.
- Prioritize constitutional rights while protecting states’ rights: Americans’ constitutional and natural born right to protect does not disappear when they cross state lines. The current patchwork of state and local laws can confuse even the most conscientious concealed carry holder and put him or her at risk of breaking the law.
Take Action for National Reciprocity
The Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act provides law-abiding citizens the right to carry a concealed firearm and travel freely between states without worrying about breaking a conflicting state law. Show your support of national concealed carry reciprocity. It’s a no-brainer. Representatives in Washington need to know that Americans from coast to coast are in favor of a national concealed carry reciprocity policy to help keep our families safe.
