January 2016 saw a record number of murders in Chicago, a place well known for having some of the strictest gun-control laws in America.
In January alone, there were 51 reported murders, which surpassed the previous record of 45 set in January 2000. Not only were murders at an all time high, shooting incidents in general increased by more than 100%.
Chicago enacts a strict ban on “assault weapons,” adds a “violence tax” to every gun and bullet sold in a retail shop, and restricts both the number and location of gun stores.
Maybe it’s time for Chicago to realize that making it almost impossible for law-abiding citizens to protect themselves turns those citizens into easy targets for criminals.
