If a firearms trainer tells you to move, but doesn’t tell you how to move, you are only getting half the lesson. The short answer is, “Don’t cross your feet.” Turn your toes in the direction you want to go before you start moving. This gives you a good stable platform and reduces the risk that you will trip and fall.

Once you are moving in the desired direction, keep your feet on your line of movement and twist at the waist to bring the sights on target. Think of a tank turret. The tank can move eastward and fire to the south. That’s what you want to mimic.

Perfect Practice Makes Perfect

Work on this movement in your basement, garage or backyard with a Blue Gun or a SIRT Pistol to build muscle memory. If your range won’t let you practice this live-fire, consider using simulated ammunition like UTM to give you the feel of this action.
