Apparently good guys only buy guns when it appears there will be some sort of gun control demon running for national office. As a result, gun sales have slumped heavily following the election of Donald Trump.

Gun prices are falling fast. Manufacturers have too much supply and not enough demand and Senators Charles Schumer and Nancy Pelosi are waiting in the wings to spring ever more egregious firearms legislation on a weakened industry.

The weird thing is that gun ownership has never been more popular, more politically correct and more socially acceptable. Yet people are now buying fewer guns than any time in the last decade.

It’s as if we all think only the president has any impact on firearms legislation. Well, even if you don’t think sweeping gun control legislation is coming our way, let’s remember that it only takes a few votes or one major court case to swing the pendulum back the other direction. Stay vigilant.

Looking over some of the recent gun sales flyers, I have to admit that it looks like guns are pretty much free these days. I recently saw a one-day flash sale of Taurus PT 111 G2 pistols for $199 each. I own a PT 111. I paid $250 for it three years ago. And I bought it used! I love that little pistol with its 12-round magazine and second-strike capability. It is a wonderful little concealed carry gun.

AR-15 prices have fallen like an old hotel on the Vegas strip. I’ve seen entire guns, not just uppers, for $399. Even if you don’t think a $399 AR-15 is the best quality you can get, consider that the AR platform will accept any number of amazing specialty add-ons. You can make that thing into a custom gun, as Johnny Cash said, one piece at a time.

Police trade-in guns are dropping in price as well. I recently saw Glock 17 pistols for $399. I was hoping I would start to see Beretta 92/M9 pistols for sale pretty soon, but the recall of the SIG 320 might slow that process just a bit. I bought an SKS for some ungodly low price a few months back. When all the discounts and rebates were applied to the price, I paid $58 for the gun. How could I turn down such a deal?

The point of all this is that now is the time to buy a guy, any gun. If you have looked with longing eyes on any sort of firearm in the past, smash that piggy bank and go buy it. We are just one election away from Democrats taking control of things again and you know what that will do to the prices of firearms.

The time to buy is now. Most of the time gun owners do this stuff backwards. We wait until there is some crisis that starts pushing gun prices up or makes ammo difficult to get. Well, think about it. Prices may never be lower. If you were thinking about buying a gun during the Obama administration but you thought prices were just too high, don’t wait for prices to go up. Fill your gun safe now.

We can get through this Trump slump. Let’s just refocus our priorities and start buying guns again. I’m going to do my part.
