Take the Online Course
Your online course topics include:

- Basic and Advanced Skills
- State Specific Firearm and PTC laws
- Fill and print your application
Step 2 (1-2 hours long)
Complete the in-Person Shooting Qualification
Attend your in-person range instruction and shooting qualification from one of our TOP Florida Certified Instructors in the state.
Once you’ve completed the qualification, you can officially file the required application for the Florida Concealed Weapons License with the Florida Department of Public Safety.
Your in-person shooting qualification includes:
- Instruction in the fundamentals of pistol use
- Successful completion of an actual shooting qualification exercise
- Instruction in the fundamental legal aspects of pistol possession, carry, and use, including self-defense and the restrictions on the use of deadly force
You will not need to memorize times or round count for each volley of fire. The instructor will tell you what to do.
Step 3
Send Your Completed Application to the State of Florida
Once you’ve completed the online course and shooting qualification, you can apply for a concealed weapon license with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS). Can be in-person or by mail.

Do I need to take the in-person shooting qualification?
Yes. Anyone who wants to get a CWL must successfully complete the in-person shooting qualification. You cannot just take the online course. You must complete both.
How long will it take to complete the online course?
Typically it takes about 4-6 hours to go through the online course, excluding any quizzes and/or exams and restudying that you may choose to do.
Do I have to complete the course all at once?
You may complete the course at your own pace. The course can be completed in one sitting or completed a little at a time over several days.
Do I have to be a resident to take the Florida Concealed Weapons License Course?
Yes. You need to be a resident of Florida to take this online course.
How long will it take to get my Florida CWL?
FDACS has 90 days after receipt of a complete application to either issue a license or deny the application.
