What We'll Teach
Defensive Pistol Program - Certified Instructor
Defensive Pistol Program (DPP) Instructor Candidates must complete the eLearning prerequisite with a passing score of 80% in order to ensure they understand the philosophies and methodologies related to this curriculum. On day one, Instructor Candidates will go through the end user experience - both classroom and range. On day two, the DPP TC will cover the goal, set up, brief and tips for each of the drills involved in this program of instruction. Finally, on day three, candidates will conduct teach backs (they will play the role of DPP CI and their classmates play the role of end user) while the DPP TC subjectively and objectively evaluates their performance.
Additional Notes from Your Instructor
We want your training experience to be the best. Please prepare yourself with the proper equipment so we can maximize your training time. We will not have time to be trying different pistols, holsters, etc. to "see what works best for you." Inside the waistband, outside the waistband, we don't care. It must, however, be concealed. Not just covered up. If I can look at you and immediately tell you have a pistol, that's not concealed. Clothing: It is recommended that you check the weather before you travel for more accurate weather forecast. Firearms: Pistol - Any magazine-fed full-size semi-automatic service pistol with a minimal barrel length of 3.5 inches or greater is perfect. If you bring your sub-compact short-barrel semi-autos such as CZ75 RAMI, S&W M&P Shield, etc., you will be expected to perform at an elite level with them. Bring at least two additional magazines (more if you have limited capacity magazines). Ammunition: Ammunition is the number one cause of weapons malfunctions. Please select a quality round. Reloads or remanufactured ammunition is not recommended. Range Gear: Protection – Bring sunscreen and a ball cap (required). Protective eyewear is mandatory. Hearing protection (soft or hard or both) is also mandatory. Electronic hearing protection will enhance your learning experience and is highly recommended. Cleaning Kit - You should bring a cleaning kit for your weapon systems which should minimally include bore brushes, patches, bore jags, cleaning rods, cleaning fluid and lubricant (gun oil or grease) a couple of shop rags and any tools required for maintenance, disassembly and reassembly of your firearms is also recommended. First Aid Kit – Although we will have a trauma kit, it is strongly recommended that you bring your own personal snivel kit to include, sunscreen, band aids, new-skin, athletic tape, lip balm, aspirin, whatever medications you may need, reading glasses, etc. Holster/Magazine pouches/Gun Belt: Too often student arrive with holsters/magazine pouches/ Belts that are not suitable for serious training. Be sure yours are up to the task. NOTE: Blackhawk Serpa holsters, or holsters with similar retention device, are not allowed.
