My Biography

I am a mechanical engineer and U.S. Navy submarine veteran. I have been teaching family, friends, and neighbors how to safely handle and use firearms for hunting, sport, and personal defense since 1993. I am a MN Department of Natural Resources Certified Volunteer Firearms Safety Instructor. My instructing approach is process-to-performance, and I generally use data and humor to get important information across, rather than bravado. I have maintained a Minnesota permit to carry since 2009, and have been a USCCA member since 2011.

"Prior to a 1:1 class with Brian we had a brief discussion about what I wanted to accomplish. We began the session with Brian asking some additional clarifying questions about what I wanted. It became clear in a short amount of time that Brian came prepared with several different options to try with me based on my ability to apply the skills he was helping me develop. I was very impressed by the fact that he had a list of options in his phone and that he referenced them as needed to help me narrow down the nuances that would help me improve my accuracy and eliminate the pulling to the left of center that I had been experiencing. After one practice session 1 week after the class I took an accuracy test of 50 rounds a second week later in a 9" circle at distances from 9' - 45'. 48 rounds were within the 9" circle and I had never shot at a distance longer than 25' prior to that test. Clearly his instruction made a significant impact on my accuracy. I'll be taking additional instruction from him and would highly recommend him. I'll also be sending my wife to him for 1:1 instruction. This was much, much better than a class of multiple students. "
