What You'll Learn

The AR 15 is the most popular rifle for the average person in the United States. Many people are confused about the nature and use of this weapon system. To help interested people improve their understanding of the AR 15 platform, we are offering this introductory course.

Introduction to the AR 15 Platform for Private Citizens is designed for the person with no or little understanding of the AR 15.

The course of instruction will begin in the classroom to discuss general safety around firearms and specific safety issues when owning and handling an AR 15 style weapon. Students will repeatedly be exposed to safe thinking and behaviors the students can carry with them off the range and into their day to day life.

Basic parts and their functions will be discussed so students have a general idea of the parts, nomenclature, and function generally universal to any AR platform weapon. This will give students greater confidence when handling or shopping for an AR platform weapon.

Students will know how to take the weapon apart (break down) for cleaning and routine maintenance. Emphasis will be placed on understanding how often the weapon needs to be cleaned, importance of specific areas to target for cleaning, and how to apply lubrication for a maximally effective weapon.

On the range, students will learn the most common shooting positions for basic marksmanship with the AR rifle. Accommodations will be for individual needs around different shooting positions that may be difficult to some physical conditions.

During this course of instruction, we will focus on zeroing the AR using iron sights. While electronic options are popular and more affordable than ever, we believe this introductory course should build a foundation of marksmanship on knowing how to zero the weapon and shoot effectively with iron sights. The concepts learned during this portion of the class will largely apply to optic sights as well.

Students who do not already own an AR may use one of our training rifles at no additional charge. Ammo will NOT be provided. All students are responsible for bringing 100 rounds of .223 Remington ammunition.

Cancellation Policy: Students are required to cancel at least 48 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 48 hours before the class will not be refunded.

"This is a comprehensive class that covers everything you need to know to get started within an AR-15 style rifle. As safety is a #1 priority, the class first discusses all the main functions and parts of the platform and the safe use of guns. The second half of the course includes live fire again founded in safety first attitude. You will learn how to properly sight in the rifle and then you'll have some exercises that will train your body towards automatically following those safety procedures. It's almost like getting two classes in one. "
