John grew up in a non-2A family but was lucky enough to have a respected family friend convince his parents that guns were not scary. This acceptance led not only to John being able to begin shooting rifles, handguns and shotguns, but also becoming a member of a champion small bore rifle team. After taking some time off during high school and college, he began to reintegrate into the gun community as he connected with the gun owners / shooters in his circle of friends. Being puzzled by inconsistencies in shooting performance, John started to do some professional training. After starting with a "tier 1" class and being over his head, John found Northern California Medical Tactical (NorCalMedTac) which proved significantly beneficial not only in growth of talents but also in consistency. After training for years with NorCalMedTac, taking semi private lessons, training on his own and successfully completing advanced classes with several world renowned instructors, the one thing that stood out was that without reinforcing the basics and consistency, one will never be able to progress. Eventually Brannon Schell (owner of NorCalMedTac) came to trust John and allow him to RSO and assist with classes. Although John is capable of teaching on his own, he prefers to assist Brannon when he is not doing his own tactical and self-defense training.
