Galco SC2

Review on Galco SC2. The cut of the holster permits a proper firing grip on the draw and the reinforced leather retains its shape to aid reholstering.

Lightweight and comfortable, the Galco SC2 fits many handguns.

While I own a number of high-end holsters from small volume holster makers, I don’t always have the luxury of waiting for a holster. I know people who have ordered holsters from small but popular shops and wound up selling the gun before the holster even arrived months later. Now when I need a top quality holster, I look first to Galco Gunleather. Galco stocks an impressive number of holsters for direct sale and has a large national network of dealers. Most of the time, I can have the Galco holster I need in just a few days.

Galco was founded more than 40 years ago by Richard Gallagher as a small, family business. The company was originally known for producing the “Jackass” shoulder holster systems made famous on the “Miami Vice” television series. Galco is now based out of Phoenix, Arizona and is a major supplier to state and federal law enforcement agencies and the military. In addition, hundreds of thousands of private citizens use Galco holsters.

My latest holster from Galco is their new SC2, a twist on their established Summer Comfort design. The Summer Comfort is a classic inside the waistband holster design currently made by many holster makers. This holster is lightweight and comfortable, with snap-on belt loops for ease of attachment. The SC2 simply adds a thumb-break strap for additional retention. Over the years, Galco has found that many who carry concealed prefer having an active retention device like a thumb-break.

My experience carrying the SC2 with a Sig Sauer P229 has been very positive. The holster rides well and is very secure. Concealment is easy, but requires a cover garment since the holster is not designed to be tuckable. The cut of the holster permits a proper firing grip on the draw and the reinforced leather retains its shape to aid reholstering.

The SC2 is constructed of premium saddle leather, with fine attention to detail. The holster is available in any color you like as long as it’s black and will fit belts up to 1 3/4 inches. The holster can be ordered to fit a wide variety of handguns including semi-automatics and revolvers. The SC2 retails for a very reasonable $74.95, and can be found at street prices around $60. Check out the SC2 and Galco’s entire line of holsters at www.usgalco.com.
