The Ordinary Guy: No Rest at THIS Stop!
In August 2002, on a Wednesday evening approaching midnight, John K. walked out his front door on a business trip to Charlotte, North Carolina. Leaving his wife and kids, John would travel on a fairly regular basis and he was no stranger to nights away from home. This trip promised to be no different. "It was a normal trip to our dedicated fleet operation in Charlotte," John told me later. "Sometimes I would leave late to observe the crews on night shift, so leaving home between 11 and midnight for the ride to Charlotte was not out of the ordinary for me." This night held . . . keep reading
Is Dry Fire Safe?
"Is it safe to dry fire my handgun?" When people ask this question, they are almost invariably asking about the mechanical function of their firearms, not about the physical safety of human beings. But the lives of shooters and their loved ones are far more important than the mechanical life of even the most expensive firearm. To give . . . keep reading
Embarrassing Questions
It has been said that there are no embarrassing questions, only embarrassing answers. That may be true. But if that's the case, why do we always blush when we ask the questions? Warning: This article may be difficult reading for the faint of heart. Be sure to eat some . . . keep reading
Gun Fit
From working with beginners, I can tell you that many of the hardest-to-fix shooting problems come from dealing with equipment that Just Doesn't Fit. The shooter may be struggling with a lever that can't be reached, or a fat grip that keeps squirreling around in the hand, or a trigger finger that cannot be placed properly on the trigger without . . . keep reading
Armed in America: Don't Go Naked
Carrying a handgun for personal defense is a serious decision that is not for everyone. But those who decide upon this course and pass the proper background check and muster by the state should exercise this right. At this time the majority of states have some type of concealed carry laws with varying degrees of difficulty present in obtaining these permits. As it turns out the widespread passage of shall issue laws has not . . . keep reading
Book Review: "Concealed Carry" by Wiley Clapp
Wiley Clapp's Concealed Carry may well be the perfect book to introduce someone to the world of concealable firearms. Strictly firearms, though: the author does not discuss any tactics, techniques or drills. He does not even cover holsters. That is not to be counted a loss, though, as this book wonderfully fulfills its purpose: familiarizing the reader with the vast array carry guns available. Pictures are one of the book's strong points . . . keep reading
Book Review: Basic Gunfighting 101 By: Michael T. Rayburn
My first thought when I received Basic Gunfighting 101 was, "350 pages for a gunfighting book?" I soon found out why. Rayburn's style is wordy, taking a paragraph to say what could be said in a sentence or, in one instance, over a page to say what could be said in a few sentences. On the flip side, this conversational tone makes for an easy read. Additionally, the content is so good . . . keep reading
Gabe Suarez Review: Tactics to Win the Hearts and Minds of the Enemy!
WARNING!: If you are politically correct, incapable of modifying old shooting habits, stingy on using ammo, are not open to alternative ideas and practices in pistol handling and gunfighting and can't move from the concrete blocks that cement your feet to the ground when firing from an isosceles or weaver stance... these classes are definitely not for you. However, if you say NO to these . . . keep reading
Gun Review - Kahr Arms PM9
Many readers have emailed me many times requesting a review of a Kahr pistol. Without further ado or delay, here is your review. When Concealed Carry Magazine contacted Kahr Arms, they were most agreeable to send us a pistol for testing. After a phone call from the factory rep. (good guy by the way), they promptly sent out an example of their most popular little pistol. Of course, all Kahr Arms pistols . . . keep reading
Gun Review - Sig Sauer P229 SAS
Undeniable quality. You know it as soon as you touch it. A Mercedes Benz automobile. A genuine Rolex watch. A William and Henry folding knife. The SIG P229 SAS. You don't need a salesman to point out any features or explain why these things are a cut above. They radiate quality like the sun radiates heat and light. I felt this the moment I opened up the case containing the P229 SAS. I could also swear that I may have heard a chorus . . . keep reading
