CCM Profile: Miles Freeman
Oleg Volk
Miles Freeman has all the traits of the righteous. He's personable, helpful and caring, erudite and capable in an amazing variety of areas. A father and recently a grandfather, he's a living testament to the handsome ruggedness that movies bestow on the heroes. Well-schooled in Shotokan karate and in the gentle art of . . . keep reading

Another Pro-Gun Mayor Wises Up to Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Guns" Charade
Chad D. Baus
For the past several years, Buckeye Firearms Association has published a series of articles entitled "All Politicians Are Not The Same," highlighting elected officials who have proven strong support for the Second Amendment. Today, I believe we can add two more names to the list: Ohio State Rep. Josh Mandel and Village of Walton Hills Mayor Marlene Anielski. Pro-gun voters in Ohio are already be familiar with Rep. Mandel's Second Amendment credentials. As a freshman representative in the Ohio House he co-sponsored . . . keep reading

A Protest to Remember: the 9/12 Tea Party
Christopher James Galosi
On Friday, September 11, 2009, while I was driving up to Washington D.C. to participate in the 9/12 Project Tea Party, I saw numerous tour buses and vehicles with signs on them proclaiming "Washington or bust," "9/12 is here," "Tea Party 2009," and my personal favorite, "It's Time To Party Like 1773." There were a host of other signs proclaiming the signmakers' disgust with the current administration and Congress with their handling of the economy, runaway spending, gun control, and health care. The license plates passing by said it all: Florida, South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, Georgia, Texas and Mississippi, to name just a few. That night while laying in bed, I could not help but wonder . . . keep reading

CCM Profile: The Invisible Man and His Wife
Kathy Jackson
Ordinarily, CCM profiles feature a sharp-focus picture of a single USCCA member who regularly carries a concealed firearm. But in this issue, we're going to do something a little different: we're going to pull back the focus a bit, and look at the larger picture. Who carries a concealed weapon in America -- and why? John and Jane Doe, who both regularly carry their concealed handguns, look a lot like the rest of America, although they may be a bit older and a bit wealthier than the average married couple. Unlike many of their neighbors, they have never been in trouble with the law, and if statistics are anything to go by, they are highly unlikely to do so in the future. To use only one example among many, Florida has issued more carry permits than any state (1.5 million), but has revoked only . . . keep reading

The Ordinary Guy Looks at Dangerous Political Times
Mark Walters
The political climate in today's America can't be overlooked. Everything is a "crisis" and the news is almost unbearable to watch if you happen to have a level head, some common sense and anything left of a brain. Gun owners are scared to death about this administration and are making it very clear that they mean business. Let's take a look at a few things that we can do to remain somewhat sane in these trying times. . . . keep reading

Concealed Carry in Wisconsin:
An Insider's View of Fighting the Good Fight
William Hilton
Awhile back, CCM editor Kathy and I had a little conversation, and discussed the idea of a quick rundown on what the story is about armed self-defense in Wisconsin. You may not know it, but Wisconsin and Illinois are the only two states in the union which allow no form of concealed carry: no permit whatsoever. Here's the rundown on our fight to correct that, and some of what's in the works. The first thing you need to understand about Wisconsin: we're a conservative state, surrounding two very liberal areas. Unfortunately, those two areas have the majority of our population, and therefore can dictate policy to the rest of Cheeseland. These areas are . . . keep reading

Across the Fruited Plain: Where the Fight for Shall-Issue Still Rages
Chad D. Baus
In my last column, "The People Fighting for Your Gun Rights," I lamented the fact that more state gun rights organizations had not responded to my invitation to help keep USCCA members up to date on the current battles that they face, what specific activities they are engaging in on each battle, their sense of the morale of gun owners in their state, etc. In the weeks since then, I've heard from three more state organizations, bringing our group to a total of nineteen states. For many persons who carry concealed on a regular basis, any memory of the fight that secured them that right is fading quickly. But in more places than many are aware, the battle to . . . keep reading

Media Peddles "You Might Be a Crazy Mass-Murderer If ..."
Chad D. Baus
Just on the heels of yet another "gun-free" zone getting being shot to hell by a mentally-deranged immigrant, and at the same time as yet another "prohibited person" was murdering three police officers, I was spending the weekend away from access to news media. Upon my return home, if anyone asked me what I had been up to, I would have said . . . keep reading

Dangerous Animals of the Americas: the Grabby
Tim Thorstenson
One night I couldn't sleep (note to self: do not eat Chinese buffet at 9 PM), so I turned on the radio and learned about the "chupacabra", a nasty critter that supposedly prowls Central America. From what I could gather, it has gazelle speed, rhino strength, lion claws, grizzly teeth and a proboscis the size of a two-bore black powder barrel that it uses to suck the guts out of its victims. Then I found myself with an odd thought. If chupacabra did indeed exist, would . . . keep reading

Pro-Obama Faux Gun Group: "We Were Used!"
Chad D. Baus
Throughout the 2008 Presidential election campaign, Buckeye Firearms Association, the National Rifle Association and other pro-gun organizations sought to make gun owners aware of the clear and present danger that a President Barack Obama would be to the Second Amendment. One group, however, while claiming to be pro-gun, endorsed Obama, and went out of its way to attack the NRA and anyone else who suggested that a vote for Obama was a vote for gun control. The anti-gun pedigree of the founders and leadership of that pro-Obama group, which calls itself the . . . keep reading

The Fog of War: Examining the Media's Treatment of the Alabama Massacre
Chad D. Baus
On March 10, 2009, a rampage killer ended the lives of ten people before taking his own life. The 28 year old man, who went through police officer training in 2003 but did not graduate, killed several members of his family before shooting at people in seemingly random fashion from his vehicle. While the motives of the Alabama mass murderer are still in doubt, the motives of some members of the news media covering the event will no doubt be immediately held as suspect, especially by those of us accustomed to front page anti-gun editorializing. As is common for most "breaking news" reports, the first . . . keep reading

Across the Fruited Plain: The people fighting for your gun rights
Chad D. Baus
Recently, USCCA's Kathy Jackson presented me with the idea of writing a regular column that could update members on the ongoing fight for gun rights at the state level. I quickly realized that what started with just a few words ("I'm needing a regular online writer to tell me about the doings of other state gun rights organizations... and to track local political battles in across the states. Are you interested in doing some of that kind of work?") was going to be a rather daunting project - but not for the reasons I originally anticipated. . . . keep reading

Zero Tolerance: the Invasion of the Brain Snatchers
Bruce A. Beatty
Marie Morrow, Honors student, Young Marine, and Drill Team Commander at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colorado, knows how it feels. So does Jeffery Maxwell, and honorably discharged (I never did like the term "ex") Marine and veteran of the war on terror in Iraq. And, of all people, suspended Wisconsin schoolteacher Betsy Ramsdale. All have become the latest victims of the incredibly stupid war on sanity and common sense also known as "Zero Tolerance." Zero Tolerance really came into vogue with the . . . keep reading
