Across the Fruited Plain: Where the Fight for Shall-Issue Still Rages
Chad D. Baus
In my last column, "The People Fighting for Your Gun Rights," I lamented the fact that more state gun rights organizations had not responded to my invitation to help keep USCCA members up to date on the current battles that they face, what specific activities they are engaging in on each battle, their sense of the morale of gun owners in their state, etc. In the weeks since then, I've heard from three more state organizations, bringing our group to a total of nineteen states. For many persons who carry concealed on a regular basis, any memory of the fight that secured them that right is fading quickly. But in more places than many are aware, the battle to . . . keep reading

Media Peddles "You Might Be a Crazy Mass-Murderer If ..."
Chad D. Baus
Just on the heels of yet another "gun-free" zone getting being shot to hell by a mentally-deranged immigrant, and at the same time as yet another "prohibited person" was murdering three police officers, I was spending the weekend away from access to news media. Upon my return home, if anyone asked me what I had been up to, I would have said . . . keep reading

Dangerous Animals of the Americas: the Grabby
Tim Thorstenson
One night I couldn't sleep (note to self: do not eat Chinese buffet at 9 PM), so I turned on the radio and learned about the "chupacabra", a nasty critter that supposedly prowls Central America. From what I could gather, it has gazelle speed, rhino strength, lion claws, grizzly teeth and a proboscis the size of a two-bore black powder barrel that it uses to suck the guts out of its victims. Then I found myself with an odd thought. If chupacabra did indeed exist, would . . . keep reading

Pro-Obama Faux Gun Group: "We Were Used!"
Chad D. Baus
Throughout the 2008 Presidential election campaign, Buckeye Firearms Association, the National Rifle Association and other pro-gun organizations sought to make gun owners aware of the clear and present danger that a President Barack Obama would be to the Second Amendment. One group, however, while claiming to be pro-gun, endorsed Obama, and went out of its way to attack the NRA and anyone else who suggested that a vote for Obama was a vote for gun control. The anti-gun pedigree of the founders and leadership of that pro-Obama group, which calls itself the . . . keep reading

The Fog of War: Examining the Media's Treatment of the Alabama Massacre
Chad D. Baus
On March 10, 2009, a rampage killer ended the lives of ten people before taking his own life. The 28 year old man, who went through police officer training in 2003 but did not graduate, killed several members of his family before shooting at people in seemingly random fashion from his vehicle. While the motives of the Alabama mass murderer are still in doubt, the motives of some members of the news media covering the event will no doubt be immediately held as suspect, especially by those of us accustomed to front page anti-gun editorializing. As is common for most "breaking news" reports, the first . . . keep reading

Across the Fruited Plain: The people fighting for your gun rights
Chad D. Baus
Recently, USCCA's Kathy Jackson presented me with the idea of writing a regular column that could update members on the ongoing fight for gun rights at the state level. I quickly realized that what started with just a few words ("I'm needing a regular online writer to tell me about the doings of other state gun rights organizations... and to track local political battles in across the states. Are you interested in doing some of that kind of work?") was going to be a rather daunting project - but not for the reasons I originally anticipated. . . . keep reading

Zero Tolerance: the Invasion of the Brain Snatchers
Bruce A. Beatty
Marie Morrow, Honors student, Young Marine, and Drill Team Commander at Cherokee Trail High School in Aurora, Colorado, knows how it feels. So does Jeffery Maxwell, and honorably discharged (I never did like the term "ex") Marine and veteran of the war on terror in Iraq. And, of all people, suspended Wisconsin schoolteacher Betsy Ramsdale. All have become the latest victims of the incredibly stupid war on sanity and common sense also known as "Zero Tolerance." Zero Tolerance really came into vogue with the . . . keep reading

Mandatory Gun Education - in Schools?
Chad Baus
In the past month, no less than four Ohio children, aged eleven, ten, eight and four, have injured or killed people with firearms. Two of the victims, aged eight and two, were shot by their respective siblings. One of the victims, shot by his eleven year-old neighbor, was seven. Three of the victims died of their injuries.[1] In all but one case (wherein a four year-old boy shot his 18 year-old babysitter with a shotgun because she had accidentally stepped on his foot) the shootings have been ruled accidental. While the typical reaction . . . keep reading

Did the 2008 Elections Give Gun Control a Mandate?
Chad Baus
In March, 2008, a Gallup poll found that an overwhelming majority of the United States public--73%--believes that the Second Amendment guarantees the right of Americans to own firearms. Yet, to hear the Brady Campaign To Prevent Gun Violence (formerly Handgun Control Inc.) tell it, America voted overwhelmingly in support of gun control just a few months later. Consider the following from a Brady bunch report published just hours after the polls closed last November . . . keep reading

You Don't Have to Love Your Teammates
Roger D. Curry, JD
It's the bottom of the last inning in a rough softball game at the city park, two out, runners at second and third base, we lead by one run, and the other guys are at bat. We get this last out and we win. Our pitcher winds up and throws. The batter hits a high fly to deep center. Our center fielder is under it, ready for the catch. Out of the blue, our pitcher squeals like the PETA princess at a barbecue, "No-o-o-o-o! Don't catch it!" Startled and confused, the center fielder looks away. The ball drops. Two runners score, game over, we lose. Miffed, all our guys ask the pitcher, "Why'd you do that?!?" The pitcher pouts and whines, "He's left-handed and he's dating the batter's sister! You're either with us or you're against us!" Ain't it great to be a pure-hearted LOSER? That's just what you are when you . . . keep reading

Mandatory CCW Classes?
Larry Correia
Recently there was a newspaper article posted to an internent firearms discussion board. The article was a typical slanted piece, where the reporter's bias against regular people carrying guns was obvious. The article hinged on how easy it was to get a concealed carry permit. Someone in the forum pointed out that the Florida shooting test was easier than what a police officer had to pass. This inevitably kicked off an argument between the posters about mandatory testing. Keep in mind, these are gun people. There is a divide in the concealed carry community. Many believe that a permit should be received only after compleating an in-depth training class and passing a mandatory shooting test. The other side believes . . . keep reading

(Calguns alert) Oral Arguments in the Nordyke case will be held January 15, 2009
The Calguns Foundation would like to invite you to the Oral Arguments in the Nordyke case. Nordyke is the case that will make the landmark DC v Heller case apply to California. This means an individual right to firearm ownership. It is quite important for the actual Nordyke appeal that we pack the courtroom and the overflow. Our counsel would like to be able point out the large number of "The People" sitting in the courtroom that day who believe . . . keep reading

Brady Law Reinterpreted by Bureaucrats to Deny Firearms Rights to Non-Criminals
Greg Bailey
Editor's Note: The following is a private rant I received via email a few days ago. It was too good -- and too much to the point -- to allow it to languish in my in box, so I'm sharing it with you all. Whenever someone refers to "reasonable gun control," please remember this story and don't be fooled by the rhetoric. There are hundreds of such cases every day! I was hoping to buy another several weapons to add to my "arsenal", beginning with a 20 gauge 11/87 parkerized with synthetic youth stock to teach my daughter Ingrid to shoot. However . . . keep reading

JPFO Liberty Crew: Making Change Happen
L. Neil Smith
I used to believe, naively, that if the American people ever managed to learn the truth about their nation's history and its current situation, there would be a revolution, or at least some kind of major, sweeping reforms. Now, a trifle older, sadder, wiser, I understand that the instant they start to hear the truth, a reflex pounded into them by the public school kicks in. They shut their eyes as tight as they can, slap their hands over their ears, and chant over and over in a shrill voice, "I'm not . . . keep reading

California, Orange County Crisis: Your Help Needed!
Greg Goodall
As many of those who participate in the USCCA Forum already know, the recently appointed sheriff of Orange County, California (Sandra Hutchens, formerly of the LA County Sheriff's Department) has begun revoking CCW on a large scale, and without cause. On November 18, the Orange County Board of Supervisors will be addressing the newly appointed Sheriff to discuss the controversy surrounding her new highly-restrictive CCW Policy. Anyone with an interest in preserving their CCW rights and privileges is highly encouraged to attend the meeting and make their presence felt! The Board must . . . keep reading

Here's what our members are saying ...
"Your website and magazine have many helpful articles and most importantly, an opportunity to hear from like-minded people who take self protection seriously. For many of us that carry it has been both an "evolution" from thinking about carrying to a full-time commit-ment and a "revelation" that we can enjoy freedom to protect our loved ones from attack.
Norbert Quenzer

U.S. Concealed Carry addresses absolutely every self-defense issue of concern to intelligent Americans today, provides vital information regarding products, services and organizations relevant to concealed carry and communicates critical self-defense information.
William M. Splawn
Irmo, SC
I am writing to express my complete satisfaction with U.S. Concealed Carry. I find your no-nonsense, real world focus, to be a refreshing change from other gun publications. I found the CCM Profiles to be especially good. It was good to see other concerned citizens speaking out on CCW matters. It makes the rest of us feel less like “gun nuts” and more like a community of concerned and squared away citizens.

Just a quick note to let you know that I really appreciate what you are doing and the courage it has taken for you to be “just a regular guy” who cares enough to do something worth doing! You are to be congratulated for your commitment and your convictions. Both have motivated me to do all I can to “spread the word” and to “protect our rights.”
