"Vote to Stop the Threat!"

November 23rd, 2007

Dear Friend,

Happy Thanksgiving! I honestly can't believe 'the holidays' are already here, but I guess that's just me getting older!

Ladies and gentlemen, by this time next year, we will have elected a new President of the United States. As you know, VERY much is at stake this election year when it comes to our natural and human right to self-defense (Not to mention gun rights in general!). That is why this week's newsletter is going to be an attempt to 'rouse the troops'!

You see... I had a troubling thought earlier this week and wondered how many concealed carry permit holders are registered to vote, and I'm betting it's not 100% of them! With what's at stake in 2008, we need EVERYONE who feels passionate about our cause to vote to stop the threat! For one thing, I believe that ALL 88 Million American gun owners should be VERY active in politics, in order to preserve our constitutionally recognized right to keep and bear arms. But the reason why this thought bothered me so much, is because I feel that as concealed pistol licensees, we have taken firearm ownership to the next and most extreme level! Because we depend on our firearms to such a large degree, I would have thought that the CCW crowd would be more politically active than your every-day gun owner... So if you fall into this category of a CCW holder, all I ask is that you follow your pistol-packing instincts: recognize the threat, and VOTE until it disappears!!

So here goes! If you are already a registered voter, and already plan on doing your patriotic duty, then please forward this newsletter to everyone that you know!

"FIGHT ME for this flag!"
USCCA Video of the Week

CAUTION: This video will leave you with a tear in your eye, and incredibly moved.

Show them this amazing video!

Watching this video reminded me of one of my all time favorite poems...

It is the soldier, not the reporter,
who has given us Freedom of Press.

It is the soldier, not the poet,
who has given us Freedom of Speech.

It is the soldier, not the campus organizer,
who has given us the Freedom to Demonstrate.

It is the soldier, who salutes the flag,
who serves beneath the flag, and whose coffin is draped by the flag
that allows the protester to burn the flag.

"The Good Shepard"
Oleg Volk

Once upon a time a good shepherd named Sam lived in a lush green valley. He tended a small flock of sheep and protected them and cared for them and took their wool for himself. And his herd would grow, for all the sheep nearby heard that his charges need not fear the butcher...as I was saying, Sam was a kindly shepherd.

And so Sam would take in sheep that ran away from other farms, where butcher's knife awaited them. Naturally, he would return the kind he didn't like...sheep with fleece that resembled dreadlocks or funny looking eyes or other undesirable traits. Still, all the animals around knew his place to be best.

The safety of the sheep and Sam's prosperity were further enhanced by Sam's long shotgun. The jackals soon learned to pick other prey and the sheep were content, though often cold for lack of fleece.

Over time, however, the happy sheep began to notice that something was amiss. For instance, when the jackals slinked by, Sam would no longer chase them. He would simply blast them from the porch of his spare but neat white house. The problem with that was simple: most of the pellets ended up in the sheep, with a distinct minority inconveniencing the jackals.

Moreover, whether because of myopia or a drinking problem, Sam would often fire upon black sheep of the herd, as if confusing them with the jackals. When the sheep complained, the herder would look puzzled and go home to enjoy fine mutton.

The situation grew intolerable, yet everyone knew that other ranches had the same problems, and worse. The most active of the herd had finally come up with a good idea. Next time the jackals came in to try their luck they were able to get right next to the sheep -- and then the rams and the ewes charged, giving hell with horn and hoof.

No sooner that the predators retreated, leaving mangled comrades in their wake, than did rancher Sam come out, shotgun at the ready. He surveyed the battleground and addressed the sheep. --"Sheep," he said "I am impressed! Who did this fine work?" Several planners of the ambush came forward, baaaing proudly.

Sam raised his shotgun and blasted the animal closest to him. The rest stood dumbfounded, not sure what to do. The shepherd quickly shot the others who came forward.

--"That" he declared "is the end to which all who employ violence against fellow animal will come." One ewe began to say that jackals were not exactly fellow animals, but the gaping muzzle of Sam's shotgun restored quiet.

Sam knew he was right, for if the dumb beasts learned to fend for themselves, he and his shotgun would be unemployed. Worse yet, fleecing would become outright perilous.

And so life goes on as before. Jackals eat better, and so does Sam. Stray pellets have a commendable ability to find sheep while seeking jackals. And the herd is content, for they know that the other sheep have it even worse.

Covert Carrier, Part 1
USCCA Gear Review

This week, we're going to take a look at a very cool product that you may have seen advertised inside our magazine. It's called the covert carrier, and they can be found on their website at www.covertcarrier.com.

The way the carrier works varies from pistol to pistol, and is usually attached either by totally replacing the grip panel of a pistol, or by simply stretching a band around the handle of the pistol. This week, we're looking at the model that replaces the grip panel on the pistol, and in a couple weeks, we're going to be looking at the stretchy kind.

The whole idea of this product, is to totally do away with the need for a holster. With this product, you simply slide the hook over your waistband, and let the pistol ride inside your waistband ('IWB' position of concealed carry). Any IWB position works with this product, but even though when I do carry IWB it's at the 4:00 position, I found the one o'clock position to be the most comfortable here, with this particular pistol- a Beretta Tomcat.

Now I gotta say- here's what I love about the Covert Carrier:

  • The little Tomcat pretty much disappears when I put it on. I can be wearing tight jeans with a tucked in shirt, and concealing the Tomcat with this is not a problem. Not only that, but as narrow as the pistol is, you almost forget it's there.
  • For just a clip, this thing holds the gun in place really well! It uses the natural tightness of your pants against your waist to hold it securely, so much that I went for a jog with this thing on, and it never felt like it was about to pop out, or slide around my waist.
  • Drawing is easily done, as the Covert Carrier's clip doesn't actually pinch at all, it's just slid on. The only bad thing I noticed about drawing with the Tomcat, is the magazine release button happened to be right where my thumb pinched the handle inside my pants, so as I drew, the magazine popped out a couple times. This is more of a Tomcat issue though, and could be easily adjusted to- I just am not used to carrying a Tomcat.

  • One thing that I was concerned about, was that the clip might change the ergonomics of the grip, but surprisingly, it doesn't. It's kind of positioned in a way that uses the arc of your palm to avoid it contact much. However it works, it's very comfortable to shoot with!

Friends, I really can't imagine a better way to carry a Tomcat, or any other little pistol of comparable size. It absolutely passes the Tim Schmidt test!! For more information, check them out that their website, www.covertcarrier.com.

This is Ron Paul's page entirely about his stance FOR us! www.ronpaul2008.com/gunowners Let's do our best to get him elected in 2008!

If your from PA a must read
For the first time in recent memory, a Pennsylvania governor is expected to appear before a legislative committee when Gov. Rendell goes to the House on Tuesday to urge the legislature to enact tough gun legislation.

Rendell's appearance could be a dramatic moment in what is looming as a historic showdown in the Capitol next week. Rendell persuaded the House Judiciary Committee chairman to schedule a vote the day of his appearance on a package of bills, including one that would limit handgun purchases to one a month. The bills have languished in committee for almost a year....

Raise money for the NRA without actually giving your money
am not sure how many people here are members are the NRA but I am assuming that most at least support the NRA and recognize the purpose they serve in defending our gun rights. I was reading their website today and they had a small excerpt which can be found here: www.nra.org/Article.aspx?id=9741

    Quote of the Week
Sometimes a good quote will inspire or motivate you. Sometimes, they'll just put a smile on your face! Here is the quote for this week...

"Before a standing army can rule, the people must be disarmed; as they are in almost every kingdom in Europe. The supreme power in America cannot enforce unjust laws by the sword; because the whole body of the people are armed, and constitute a force superior to any band of regular troops that can be, on any presence, raised in the United States. A military force, at the command of Congress, can execute no laws, but such as the people perceive to be just and constitutional; for they will possess the power, and jealousy will instantly inspire the inclination, to resist the execution of a law which appears to them unjust and oppressive."

    -Noah Webster.

    Closing Thoughts

I hope this week's newsletter has been motivating. If even one more person recognizes the dangers to our God-Given and Second Amendment recognized rights, and is encouraged to vote to stop the threat, than it was worth it to me!

Look, we all know how helpless we feel if we have to go somewhere unarmed. We feel vulnerable. We feel helpless. We feel at the mercy of chance. Can you imagine what a disarmed America would be like? Can you imagine the evil that could terrorize us as an entire nation?

Not on OUR WATCH, USCCA Members and Readers! Not on our watch!

    VOTE TO STOP THE THREAT!
