Guns Have No Place in Civil Society
By Christopher di Armani

Guns have no place in civil society. Unfortunately we do not live in one.

From Webster's Collegiate Dictionary:

1) civil: adequate in courtesy and politeness
2) society: a community, nation or broad grouping of people having common traditions, institutions, and collective activities and interests

Canada is NOT a nation of common traditions, institutions or collective activities, Hockey Night in Canada notwithstanding.

We are a nation of fractured and lost cultures, with a government more insistent every year that we destroy any vestiges of our own Canadian traditions and cultural heritage, promoting instead the heritage and culture of other nations over our own, Heritage Canada notwithstanding.

We are a nation where our politicians pit urban Canadian against rural, eastern Canadian versus western, law-abiding Canadian against... oh yeah, the law-abiding. All to further their own self-interest: to get re-elected.

The thought of being "adequate in courtesy and politeness" never enters the minds of our politicians. If it did, we would not be pandering to the voters of Toronto, Montreal and Vancouver with such things as Martin's ill-proposed handgun ban.

Only a fool believes we can prevent crime by harassing law-abiding citizens. And every single person who has a firearms license is exactly that. They are NOT the people shooting up our city streets, contrary to the rantings of the likes of Wendy Cukier and Heidi Rathjen.

Now, if banning the guns of law-abiding Canadians would actually DO THAT, I'd be all for it. But that's dream-world living, not real-world living.

If history teaches us anything, it is this: Prohibitions Do Not Work.

Alberta Premier Ralph Klein noted that recently quite eloquently. "[I]t's not going to stop the bad guys from getting a handgun and shooting someone."

Thirty-eight US states have enacted "concealed carry" legislation, understanding the following fundamental truths:

1) The Police cannot be protect everyone all the time;
2) Criminals always act where the Police are NOT;
3) Firearms in the hands of law-abiding citizens stop criminals and save lives.

Anyone in doubt of this should read Lyn Bates' account of Maryann Watkins' encounter with a would-be rapist. The article is titled Bitches with Guns, the phrase Maryann's would-be attacker repeated over and over as he was forced to reconsider his options. (http://www.lizmichael.com/bitches.htm)

We can no longer afford to hide behind the delusion that the violent criminals among us care about us, and that if we only "understood their feelings of exclusion" all would be well.

We live in a society where there are predators. Animals. Vicious and cruel human beings willing to rob, steal, rape and kill. They must be stopped.

That cannot possibly happen by attacking the law-abiding citizens who are NOT shooting our children.

K3, by Fist inc.
USCCA Gear Review

Last week, I showed you a Nylon Inside-the-Waistband (IWB) holster called the "DeSantis ProStealth". This week, I want to directly compare it to another very similar, but very different IWB holster. It's called the Fist Inc. K3

First, I want to talk about what I like about the ProStealth holster as compared to this K3. For starters, the ProStealth has a small elastic pouch for an extra magazine- something that the K3 lacks. The other thing about the ProStealth that I like, is the simple way that it attaches to your belt. There is just a big, wide, metal clip that goes over your pants and belt. With the K3, you actually wedge your pants between the clip and the holster, and the clip itself is pushed between your pants and the belt. So the way it stays in place, is by using your pants to keep it from falling down, and your belt to keep it from bouncing up.

If you can picture this, than you also can 'see' that when drawing, your belt is what keeps the holster in your pants, and not coming out with your gun.

So there are positives and negatives to both approaches. The ProStealth barely clips on, but it doesn't need to clip very much because there is nothing holding your gun in, as I mentioned last week. The K3 on the other hand, retains your pistol VERY well by locking the trigger guard into its kydex frame, BUT- when drawing, you certainly do encounter a noticeable level of resistance, which brings me to my first complaint about this holster...

You see, when carrying IWB, I like to leave my belt a little loose so that the gun rides lower than it normally would. The problem is, if your belt pops out of the 3/8" groove that this holster gives it, when you draw your pistol, you will be drawing your holster as well. This only happened to me once while using this holster, but I definitely wanted to clue you in on it!

Now for the positives! This holster is made of ULTRA THIN kydex, making it VERY concealable. That thinness, coupled with the fact that this holster "cants" the pistol slightly (tips it so that the handle is angling out of your pants more than it would normally), does two awesome things:

1) It makes it so that with the right T-Shirt, you can actually carry IWB with just a T-Shirt draped over a pistol even as thick as a GLOCK, and nobody will ever know. (Note: USCCA shirts cover it perfectly!!)

2) It makes drawing your pistol- actually getting your hand around the handle- MUCH easier. This is awesome.

I also really like the level of retention offered by this holster. As long as you cinch your belt tight so that the clip can do its job, you can easily run with this holster without having to worry about your gun flopping out.

Comfort! I expected the Nylon ProStealth to be a little more comfortable, but surprisingly, this kydex K3 is actually more comfortable. When I'm carrying IWB, my goal is to forget that I'm even wearing a gun- not always possible. With the K3 though, it at least occasionally is possible. I think that it has something to do with the fact that it tilts the gun forward the way it does. It really makes it ride better!

Well that's all I've got to say about the K3. If you would like some more information on it, you can Click Here to go to Fist, Inc's site.

TRAINING ADVICE:

What drills do you use?
I'm rather new to concealed carry and would love to know what kinds of drills folks use to improve speed of target acquisition and speed w/ accuracy. Right now, since I just got my new gun, I'm still only target shooting for accuracy and familiarity with my firearm.

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am a firm believer in the quote above. This is a great message that everyone who carries a gun for self-protection aught to drive into their conciseness. Fight to the finish, and shoot to stop the threat! You lose a gunfight the second you stop giving it 200%!

Be safe out there, and as always- thanks for reading!!
